An Appeal by the Dalai Lama to the World

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama was born on 6 July 1935. After China occupied Tibet in 1959, the Dalai Lama fled to India, where he has been advocating for Tibet's independence ever since. In 1989, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In 2011, he handed over political leadership of Tibet to Lobsang Songay, who had been elected prime minister of the Tibetan Government in Exile.
